GIS Analyst – Renewable Energy

KiloNewton is searching for an ambitious individual who is an experienced GIS Analyst, to perform analysis in a variety of applications concerning renewable energy, primarily solar and wind. The ideal candidate will leverage mapping systems, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and CAD to prepare maps and drawings for project deliverables on renewable energy and other projects, building custom models around the world to assess renewable energy sites for development.

The GIS Analyst will be skilled in utilizing ArcGIS or equivalent, and AutoCAD software. Maps and drawings must be created with accurate detail that incorporates topography, boundaries, permitting ordinances, environmental variables, design inputs, field notes, and must be able to comprehend, interpret, and render verbal inputs from their supervisor and others as required.

GIS Analyst – Renewable Energy Job Description and Responsibilities

  • Research publicly available data and maps for use in generating final map results.
  • Importing/exporting CAD to GIS and vice versa, including georeferencing.
  • Create new base maps and post existing system maps from available records.
  • Assist with the preparation/review of CAD/GIS proposals and scope of work requests.
  • Perform implementation, processing, and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) on new and updated data, as well as compile metadata.
  • Create, translate and integrate GIS data layers, and digitize new data using a variety of software.
  • Implement technical algorithms and equations into GIS models.
  • Automate GIS processes, and assist with conversion into software APIs.
  • Coordinate with other technicians and analysts in various data development, update, and project support initiatives.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to groups, personnel, and users in GIS and data efforts.
  • Complete special requests for various groups by utilizing existing data, analyzing results, and produce 2D, 3D drawings and models, reports, maps, and supporting documentation.
  • Participates in engineering, permit and construction processes.
  • Provide Marketing and Pre-Sales support, generating maps and solutions for network and proposal opportunities.
  • Drafting clear, detailed, and complete drawings with accurate detail that incorporates permitting ordinances, design inputs, sketches, and notes.
  • Work with management to schedule work and manage workload to meet customer and company expectations.
  • Other duties as defined.


GIS Analyst – Renewable Energy Skills and Requirements

  • Experience with renewable energy, particularly solar and/or wind.
  • Expertise using GIS software products, especially ArcGIS. • Expertise using AutoDesk software products, especially AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods related to GIS/CAD.
  • Working knowledge of GIS techniques such as map production, editing, and geocoding.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Access, Project.
  • Demonstrated customer relationship and people skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent communications skills (written, verbal and presentation).
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills and be detail oriented.
  • Required: a Bachelor’s Degree in a related technical discipline (e.g. GIS, renewable energy, civil engieneering) or related experience. Master’s or higher a plus.
  • The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience in GIS products. A GISP certification is a plus.
