What does KiloNewton do?+
KiloNewton is a solar design and engineering services firm specializing in early-stage civil-structural design optimization that we carry through to construction. We help Developers, EPCs, and EORs build better, more profitable solar projects by reducing risk, minimizing delays, and creating value through optimized designs and adaptive engineering practices. We also help solar tracker OEMs solve engineering problems and design better trackers.
Why does early-stage optimization matter?+
EPC bids and EOR commitments can lock in civil-structural assumptions before a project is fully optimized — creating cost overruns that are expensive and time-consuming to unwind. Early-stage optimization addresses terrain, grading, and design tradeoffs before those assumptions harden, giving Developers and EPCs a significant competitive advantage in bidding, building, and executing solar projects.
What does a typical engagement look like?+
Every project is different, but we always want to engage as early as possible when design decisions have the most impact. For Developers, engagements often begin with at SiTE™ Evaluation or SiTE™ Selection with a focus on de-risking projects and lowering LCOE and then progress into detailed optimization and engineering support as your project matures. For EPCs and EORs, we will work with you to integrate directly into your workflow — however it works best for you.
How much project experience does KiloNewton have?+
Our team has delivered SiTE™-optimized engineering on more than 7 GWdc of solar projects across a wide range of terrain types and project conditions. And we work with smaller to Top 5 Developers, EPCs and EORs on distributed generation to utility-scale solar projects. This depth of experience informs every engagement — from early-stage site evaluation through detailed design and construction support— and is embedded directly into our software, workflows and project execution.

How does terrain impact solar project costs?+
Complex terrain is one of the biggest drivers of uncontrolled civil-structural costs in solar development. On non-flat sites, terrain-related costs can reach 1–4¢/Wdc — a substantial impact on project economics and LCOE. Our GIS-based terrain analysis quantifies these effects early, enabling design decisions that minimize grading, reduce structural costs, and improve overall project returns.
What is SiTE™ Optimization?+
SiTE™ Optimization is our proprietary solar engineering design and optimization service design specifically for Developers. It translates terrain data into project economics — quantifying the effect of site conditions on LCOE so you can make informed decisions before EPC bids and EOR commitments lock in. Our approach incorporates civil, structural, terrain, and energy production factors simultaneously, delivering results faster and more accurately than conventional grading designs, other commercially available software or typical engineering workflows.

What software does KiloNewton use?+
All of our services are powered by SolarSpace®, our design and optimization software platform that incorporates KiloNewton's proprietary civil-structural optimization algorithms. SolarSpace® enables us to perform sophisticated terrain-based analytics and civil-structural optimization that cannot be performed quickly or easily using other commercially available software. And SolarSpace® supports faster turnaround and better optimization outcomes than conventional tools. Our software and workflows have been developed and refined across more than 7 GWdc of projects.
What is SolarSpace®?+
